Illinois arrests for those not paying their child support

The Cook County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 people during a particular week in June for not making their child support payments. The individuals arrested reportedly owed a combined total of around $400,000. One man arrested owed in excess of $122,000. One other individual owed $80,000, and still another had not paid $54,000 in child support payments.

It's common for individuals to request courts to make modifications to the amounts of child support owed. In some circumstances, couples will even agree to modifications without making it necessary for all parties to appear in divorce. Unfortunately, we also have cases like those mentioned above where individuals simply refuse to pay their court-ordered obligations.

Rulings for almost every family law matter that involve children will in some form or the other concern what is in the best interest of the child.  Though parents often play games with the paying of child support to get back at the other parent, the person ultimately injured when child support payments are not made will be the child.

Good family law attorneys will attempt to get parents to work together to determine what the needs are for the child and how much money it will cost for those needs to be met.  This can include food, clothing, educational needs, recreational activities, etc.

It is essential that parents come to an agreement as to how a child would be best raised.  Though a child is likely to be affected by a divorce, there is much less chance of harm to the child when parents cooperate with each other.
