Wade's ex doesn't see him as the champion many others do

Our last post focused on high-asset couples that saw divorce as an amicable process. Spouses like David Arquette chose to pass on child and spousal support even though he may have been entitled to a large sum. For him, he felt that he didn't need the extra cash.

Arquette's actions are admirable, but there are other cases in which the income disparity would leave one spouse with a significantly different ability to provide for children. In these cases, child support or spousal support is often granted to one party. Dwyane Wade's ex says that when it comes to her divorce and custody issues, the NBA star isn't the championship star his athletic career makes him out to be.

The ex-wife was recently seen protesting on the streets of Chicago, Illinois. She made a sign that read "NBA Miami Heat Star Mother of His Children on the Streets." Her protest involved a claim that the star has failed to pay a large portion of the child support obligation ordered by the court.

Wade and his ex-wife had two sons together for which the child support was ordered. The mother claims that she was only paid three months worth of the obligation over a span of six years. The unpaid support forced her to pay for the children's' needs on a single income, draining her funds.

Of course, that is one side of the story. On the other side, Wade says the claims are unfounded. He was awarded sole custody of the two boys in 2011. He said that up to that point and continuing beyond, he has always "met his financial responsibilities regarding his ex-wife."

Whether the need is to enforce a child support obligation or defend against unsubstantiated claims, there are times when the assistance of an attorney should be sought even after a divorce has been finalized.
