Michael Jordan's ex-wife gives first interview since divorce

Juanita Jordan, the ex-wife of Michael Jordan, has stayed almost completely out of the public eye since her split with the legendary Chicago Bulls shooting guard. However, she recently gave her first press interview since the divorce, stating that she's enjoying a stable life and that she is generally content. She goes on to say that her and Jordan still occasionally communicate and that they are not at odds with each other.

Due to the wealth that Michael Jordan acquired as one the most famous basketball stars of his era, the breakup between Ms. Jordan and her husband was an incredibly expensive, high asset divorce. Ms. Jordan received a settlement of $168 million. The sprawling Highland Park estate that she shared with her ex-husband was granted to Mr. Jordan in the divorce. Ms. Jordan has since relocated to an exclusive section of the River North neighborhood in Chicago.

Ms. Jordan explains in the interview that she has simplified her life and has been concentrating on her children. She states that she has wanted to open a business but that she has mainly focused on helping her kids transition into adult life. She still has an active real estate license, however. Ms. Jordan is also an active board member of Reel Beauty Inc., which is a nonprofit organization that provides mentors for teen girls.

Ms. Jordan claims that her and her ex-husband still speak to each other, mostly about their three children. She states that communication has been the most important aspect of getting through their divorce, and that divorce is not about the spouses. Instead, she said that the focus should be on making sure that the children are dealing well with the situation.

Divorces between high-profile couples can so often lead to messy, drawn out disputes over child custody and asset division. Other ex-spouses facing a similar situation should consider emulating the Jordans' divorce and try remaining humble, even while aggressively fighting for what they deserve.
