R. Kelly in trouble over child support

When you bring a child into the world, both parents are expected to put in the time, energy and money to take care of the child. When one parent shirks on their responsibility, the child might have to go without, and that is not fair to the child or the parent that is providing support. This is one reason courts take past-due child support cases so seriously.

Lake County readers might be interested to hear that a celebrity could be in trouble with the court for not paying his child support. R & B singer R. Kelly is allegedly behind on his child support. In court documents filed by his ex-wife Andrea Kelly, he has not kept up his $20,833 a month child support obligation. He sas fallen behind before, racking up over $100,000 in past-due payments last year, but paid the debt off.

According to Kelly's representatives, he is unavailable. This could be problematic for the singer since he already failed to appear at a November hearing. Avoiding the upcoming hearing could land him in jail for 30 days to six months. His next hearing is set for March 27.

Although it might seem the man is having financial difficulties, that doesn't excuse him from his child support obligation. If this is the case, then both parents need to go back to court and work out a new agreement. Whether you are the parent doing without the needed support or the parent struggling to pay the obligation, working things out is in the best interests of the child. For those who need help, an experienced legal professional can help both parties reach a possible agreement that is fair for everyone involved.
