Illinois-native may fight 2 child custody battles

A woman from Illinois is going to face two custody battles in the coming months, after two different men filed to seek custody of their children. One of those children is nine years old, but the other one has not even been born yet. Since two different men are involved, this is going to take two separate court cases to resolve if she decides she does not want to give up custody.

The 9-year-old boy was born with the woman's first husband, and he has special needs. That husband now wants total custody because he says that the woman is never home, due to how much she works. This means that she has to leave the boy with nannies, which the man says are unskilled.

However, the woman has come back and countered by trying to show that the husband would not be able to provide the care that the boy needs. She claimed that his ability to read is confined to a second-grade level. She said that he does not know how to do the basic things that are needed to take care of himself, such as tying his shoes.

The second case is interesting because the woman is not even pregnant with the child. The couple was trying to have the child with a surrogate mother, and he is due to be born in the summer. However, the husband is now estranged, so he wants to get full custody after that child is born.

Both of these promise to be complex child custody cases, and they could truly demonstrate how many different legal aspects have to be considered when dealing with children that need additional care and with surrogate parents.
