Colts owner must testify in child custody matter

The owner of the Colts, Jim Isray, must appear in court to give his testimony in a child custody hearing. The child custody case does not involve Isray's own children; rather, it is a custody matter between Isray's girlfriend and the father of her children. The father is worried that Isray suffers from a drug addition, and he does not want his children to be exposed to such behavior.

The father stated that he does not want his kids to be exposed to substance abuse behavior. The father also added in a court letter that money cannot buy self-respect or morals. The Colts owner was arrested on March 16 on charges of intoxicated driving only blocks from the residence where the man's children were staying with their mother.

According to the father of the children, Isray's statements under oath will show the court the negative nature of the conditions his children have been forced to endure. In addition to the testimony, the man is also requesting Isray provide medical records to prove Isray suffers from substance addiction.

Family law courts in Illinois and other parts of the nation always strive to make decisions that are in the best interest of the child. In the case of an individual who suffers from substance abuse, for example, evidence of such abuse may be used by the courts in such proceedings to make a child custody determination. Criminal behavior and illegal drug abuse are things that the courts will invariably strive to prevent a child from being exposed to. Although a spouse may try to fight for the custody of his or her children, if he or she is shown irrefutably to suffer from substance addiction, the other spouse may be awarded custody of the children.
