Mariah Carey and husband divorcing; she may get full custody

Many people enter into a marriage in Illinois and elsewhere and immediately start planning a family. Having children makes you think that you are solidifying an already strong bond between you and your partner. Later, after having kids, you may grow apart from your spouse and, for whatever reason, think that a divorce may be necessary.

The question you may ask is who gets the kids? Will it be joint custody? This is the question that singer-songwriter Mariah Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon are asking themselves.

Cannon, who is the host of the ninth season of "America's Got Talent," is said to be visiting the children periodically; however, that may change when Carey goes on tour in October 2014.

She will take the two children, who are 3-year-old twins, with her to the Orient while she promotes her singing career. The boy and girl will accompany her so that while she is focusing on her concert tour, she can be a full-time mother as well. This won't be easy but she is committed to it and apparently isn't afraid to try to do both.

Her soon-to-be ex-husband has agreed that he will travel wherever she is on tour in order to finalize the divorce and get all the details worked out. That means he may have to travel to Tokyo, China, Malaysia or Singapore because that is where her tour is taking her.

He doesn't seem to be in a position to fight her for child custody, having given her permission to take the children on tour with her.

The split occurred because she was focusing on her marriage and her children while her spouse focused on his career. Her last album flopped badly, and he didn't seem sympathetic to her plight enough to turn down a few jobs in order to support her and the kids.

When you are contemplating a divorce, and it turns into reality, the important issues in your life change. Moving forward with your life may not seem possible, but with the assistance and guidance of a legal professional, you may be able to feel that your assets, property, children and even your future is in good hands.
