Child custody modifications in Illinois

If you have questions about your current child custody arrangements, you may wish to speak with a qualified family law attorney in order to obtain the answers to your questions. Indeed, in certain situations, parents may have the right pursue modifications to their child custody arrangements in court. It is important to remember that only child custody arrangements that have been formally modified through court proceedings are legally enforceable. Informal agreements arrived at between two parents do not hold water in court.

At the Goddard & Malmquist Attorneys & Counselors at Law, we have over 40 years of experience serving legal clients in the Chicago area regarding their family law issues. Our offices are located in Barrington, Illinois, so we are readily available to meet with individuals living in the Chicagoland area.

Our office handles a variety of child custody matters including cases that involve parental relocation -- i.e., if a parent wishes to move his or her child or children out of state. We also help in situations of child endangerment, when current child custody arrangements are resulting in a child being at risk of injury or other types of mistreatment. Other situations that might prompt a child custody modification are disciplinary and education problems. For example, if a child is struggling in school or getting into trouble with the law, modification of child custody plan could help to solve the problem.

The above listed situations are just some of the more common reasons for modifying one's child custody arrangements. If you have any questions about your particular situation, get in touch with an Illinois family law attorney to discuss your problem and discover what your options are. It is best to act to resolve the issue now, rather than waiting until it is potentially too late.
