Establishing paternity in a child custody dispute

An Illinois mother who has not been able to establish paternity for her children is at a significant financial and legal disadvantage. Indeed, under Illinois law, a father is required to assist in helping care for his child financially; however, if a mother has thus far failed to establish paternity, she will be missing out on this valuable financial support. Fathers who want to visit their children will also miss out if they have not been able to prove that they are indeed the fathers of their children.

At the Goddard & Malmquist Attorneys & Counselors at Law, we help mothers establish paternity when they are seeking child support. We also help fathers establish paternity if they are seeking to have their legal rights to child custody established and/or if they are seeking to spend time with their children. Fortunately, it is relatively easy to establish paternity by way of a DNA test these days.

After paternity has been legally established, a father can then seek the child custody that he wishes to have. A father can also seek the visitation rights that he wishes to have. As for mothers, they can begin to seek the child support that they are owed once paternity is established.

Any issues that involve children and child custody are difficult and emotional to deal with, but with proper assistance, parents can navigate these matters to obtain the best solution that is available to them. The lawyers at the Goddard & Malmquist Attorneys & Counselors at Law have been helping fathers and mothers resolve their paternity concerns for years. The experience we have gathered during these years gives us the ability to resolve paternity cases easier and faster than ever before.
