Could a divorce motel help Illinois residents separate?

A new company that calls itself the DivorceHotel wants to wrap up your divorce in one weekend. The company claims it checks its participants into a fancy spa resort for the weekend while they receive various financial and legal services relating to their divorce proceedings. The idea is to complete the entire process, including decisions about marital property division, child custody and other potentially argument-inducing aspects of the divorce, in just one weekend of focused attention to the matter.

The price is quite steep and could result in fees ranging from $15,000 to $20,000, but the company is advertising the service as a way to resolve a divorce quickly. Considering that it is also done in comfortable resort-style accommodations that include fine wines, massages and meetings with specially trained financial advisors -- perhaps the process could appeal to some luxury-minded clientele who expect they can quickly and easily come to agreement on all aspects of their breakup.

In addition to receiving wine and massages, couples who are able to successfully resolve their divorces through the process will also walk away with a T-shirt. That is the idea at least. Apparently, the company has not finished the T-shirt part of the deal just yet, but if they can wrap up your divorce in a single weekend, printing up memorable tees should not present a major obstacle.

Illinois couples who are considering a divorce will definitely want to take things one step at a time. While every couple is different, trying to rush decisions on important matters -- such as child custody, child support, spousal support, asset division and other potentially caustic topics -- could serve to result in a tense atmosphere full of arguments. While the weekend divorce motel is certainly an interesting concept, and it could work for some individuals, it may not be very realistic for the majority of people who are going through divorce proceedings.
