Enforcing a child support order in the state of Illinois

Raising a child is a difficult task, but it is one that can bring you lifelong joy and happiness. As difficult as it is to raise a child, it becomes much more complicated when a divorce is involved. When the mother and father of a child decide to end their marriage, there are important legal questions that need to be answered regarding parenting time and parental responsibilities, as well as figuring out the logistics of having divorced parents working together to do what is best for the child.

One of the most critical issues in regards to children during a divorce is the financial support provided by the parents. Both parents are supposed to contribute to the responsibility of raising a child. When a divorce occurs, a court may order that child support should be paid by either the mother or father to the other parent to ensure the child's best interests are fulfilled.

In a perfect world, these child support court orders would be followed and obeyed. However, this is not a perfect world, and not every parent who is ordered to pay child support does so willingly or on time.

Moving forward with legal action to enforce a child support order in the state of Illinois will lead the case down one of two paths. On one path, you can appeal your case to the State Attorney's Office. But they usually have a massive backlog of cases and you will only be able to appeal on issues regarding the support payments.

On the other path, you can consult with an experienced family law attorney -- such as the legal representatives at Goddard & Malmquist -- and give your unique case the attention and legal diligence that it deserves. With a private attorney, you can also address other issues related to your case in addition to the issues you have with your support payments, as opposed to only dealing with support payments with the State Attorney's Office.
