Illinois Child Support and Child Support Guidelines

Having a child is an incredible responsibility, one that goes well beyond any other, a lifelong commitment that may outlast your relationship with the other parent. This responsibility it can result in complex agreements and connections between two parents. However, establishing the parameters of child support arrangements and how parental responsibilities and parental time will be handled in the state of Illinois is important.

To begin, Illinois child support is based on guidelines and although not guaranteed in every case, most always payable in some amount. Parents may worry that they have child support obligations, when they do not. Parents may expect amounts far in excess or below what they are entitled to receive. Knowing your divorce agreement and how child support plays into that, if it does at all, is critical.

Child support payments are determined based on a certain percentage of a parent's net income, but the net income can be difficult to determine in some cases. Because of the calculation method, some parents my attempt to conceal or artificially reduce his or her income, or even knowingly fail to fulfill his or her child support obligations.

Determining the correct and appropriate income avalible for child support is imperative when they occur when there is the hiding of income, artificial reduction of income, or when income is obtained from multiple sources. You need to be forthright and swift in your response to an uncooperative ex-spouse, and when doing so, you will want to consult with an experienced family law attorney first.
