Child support arrangements are not always followed

Around the country, there is no guarantee that divorced parents will financially contribute to raising a child, at least not in a legally-enforceable way. But in the state of Illinois, the law is clear. Both parents should contribute to that child's well-being and ensuring that the financial resources are there for the child to grow up and succeed. Child support, in this regard, is important to ensuring this goal is fulfilled.

Unfortunately, not every divorced parent is going to follow their child support arrangement, whether by choice or out of ignorance and inactivity. Either way, this is unacceptable. People who have a child and are also divorced in the state of Illinois should be prepared to hold their ex-spouse accountable if they are not fulfilling their end of the arrangement.

Many parents, though, do not know how to legally go about holding their ex-spouse accountable for their side of child support. There are clearly defined ways for a parent to seek enforcement of a child support order, but every case is a little different. What this means is that it behooves any parent who is involved with a child support order to consult with an experienced family law attorney.

Goddard & Malmquist has been helping families deal with their divorce issues, their child support problems and their family law matters for more than 40 years. If you are in need of legal help in light of a disagreement over your child support arrangement or the inactivity of a former spouse in regards to child support, then you should consult with Goddard & Malmquist.
