Modifications over time are a part of post-divorce life

There are a number of issues that any divorcing adult needs to consider when they have a child. Their son or daughter will be at the center of many issues in the divorce, not least of which is parenting time and parental responsibilities. These are the matters that dictate where the child lives, and when, as well as what responsibilities each parent will have in the wake of the completed divorce.

So when parental responsibilities and parenting time come up in your divorce, you should be prepared for a number of critical topics that you and your soon-to-be-ex will need to figure out.

The first is where your child will reside and when. Will your child go to your ex-husband's or ex-wife's home on the weekend? On certain designated days? And what about decision making? Who will have that power going forward? These are major issues that need to be sorted out.

There could also be child support involved in your case. This issue can open up a can of legal worms as well. For example, is the paying spouse making his or her payments on time? Are they paying in full? Have changes in their income or their job forced a change in the support arrangements?

Hanging over all of these issues is the possibility that there will need to be modifications in the coming years after a divorce. Life changes, people change and circumstances change. So after your divorce, you may have to alter your parental responsibilities or the schedule that relates to your parenting time (or your former spouse's responsibilities and time). Be prepared for modifications after a divorce.
