Online divorce companies have limitations

A few months ago, we wrote a post about so-called "do-it-yourself" divorces. This is where splitting spouses don't hire a lawyer and try to figure out their divorce on their own. Usually it ends in calamity and disaster, and it is why most people will suggest that you consult with an experienced legal representative to ensure that your divorce is handled in a legal, compliant and efficient way.

Some tech companies have tried an alternate route that isn't quite a "do-it-yourself" divorce, but certainly deviates from a traditional divorce. Companies such as Wevorce tout an alternative divorce process that, they say, minimizes time in court and can save people money.

However, this is not a guarantee. In fact, since they are a large company that is looking to cultivate and garner a large number of customers, it could be argued that their business model may become quite generic and ubiquitous. If that happens, the "uniqueness" that seems to follow it at present will be gone.

And besides, there already are alternative solutions to the divorce problem. Collaborative divorce and mediation are choices that couples can make, and these are ways that you can avoid a so-called "traditional" divorce while still having the security of a legal professional presiding over your divorce.

The point we are making is this: evolving and pushing divorce law forward with new ideas is a good thing. But divorce is ultimately an incredibly important legal process that can be jeopardized if the participants don't have a lawyer.
